Vocab words

1) Biometric Security Measuresused as a form of identity access management and access control.
2) Cable ModemA type of modem that allows people to access the Internet via their cable television service. 
3) Client - a workstation on a network that gains access to central data files, programs, and devices through server.
4) Client/ Server Network - something that stores it's data in a central location and not just individual computers.
5) Communication Channels - transmits messages
6) Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) - designed to allow high speed data communication over the telephone lines between end-users and telephone companies. 
7) Extranet -  modified to allow outsiders access to it, especially one belonging to a business that allows access to customers.
8) Firewall - A software program designed to protect a network by preventingunauthorized users from gaining access or by monitoring transfers of information to and from the network. 
9) Hacker - one who through a personal computer breaks into the computer system of a company or government.
10) Hub - a device for connecting computers in a network.
11) Internet - a vast computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide.
12) Intranet - a computer network with restricted access
13) Local Area Conector (LAN) -  the small networks to which many business and home-computer users initially connect.
14) Modem - a device for connecting two computers by telephone line.
15) Node -
an interconnection point on a computer network.
16) Peer-Peer Network - when two or more PCs share files and access to devices like printers without requiring a separate server computer or server software.
17) Proxy Server - a process that intercepts requests from a client, passesthem to an origin server and returns the response to the client.
18) Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) - The collection of interconnected systems operated by the many telephone companies and administrations around the world.
19) Router - 
a device that allows packets of data to be moved between two points on a network.
20) Server - 
a computer or program that supplies data orresources to other machines on a network.
21) Server Operating System - keeps track of which servers are currently alive.
22) T-1 Line - it can carry more data than traditional telephone lines.
23) Wide area Network (WAN) - a computer network that expands across a large geographical area.
24) WiMax - provides fixed and mobile Internet access.
25) Wireless Internet Service Provider(WISP) - Internet service providers with networks built around wireless networking.
26) Wireless LAN (WLAN) - when a mobile user can connect to a local area network (LAN) through a wireless connection.
